Asphalt 9: Legends is the ultimate experience in racing games on mobile. The controls are highly intuitive, making each race very dynamic and enjoyable. This variant has been around since February 2018 and still gives hard competition to other apps from the same category.
This 9th release of the Asphalt series made the Editor’s choice on Google Play Store, where it already gathered 1,8 million reviews. The editor’s critics echo many of the fans’ comments:
- Terrific visual and audio design;
- Intuitive controlling;
- Wide range of available race tracks, inspired on several places around the world;
- You can pursue incredible and irrealistic maneuvers and acrobatics, making the game more dynamic and fun.
In the Apple store, the game’s reception was not very different. In iOS, Asphalt 9 Legends was awarded important prizes in several categories among best design, video, audio, and racing game.
Asphalt 9 Legends: the Best Race Experience
Without any doubt, Asphalt 9 is a masterpiece of Gameloft SE. The development company has been publishing the Asphalt series since 2004. The first version of the series was made for Nintendo mobile platforms such as Nintendo DS and N-Gage, an awkward hybrid of a cellphone and a mobile play station.
Asphalt version for Lesser Devices
Since each version of the regular Asphalt series might be too much for some devices, Gameloft has published a less exigent spin-off, Asphalt XTreme. The variant is also freemium (and ad-supported) and offers the most important aspects of its cousins from the Asphalt series.
If you are having difficulty playing Asphalt 9, or even Asphalt 8, it is worth to try Asphalt XTreme.
The Asphalt Series Today
Asphalt 9 is the latest release of the series and its most successive version. Asphalt 8 Airborne, released in 2013, is still played today but has lost some of its audience to its newer version.
In early 2020, Gadgets360 ranked Asphalt 9 Legends among the best racing games available on mobile. The blog emphasized its intuitiveness and easiness to play on mobile, the great multiplayer mode, and the good performance on most Android devices.
Android Central also placed Asphalt 9 in the top tier on mobile racing games. Interestingly, this blog ranked Mario Kart Tour above Asphalt 9 Legends, which is not that surprising in our opinions. It is worth note the blog mention how Asphalt 9 skips any realism to deliver outstanding gameplay.
One of the main games that steal some of the Asphalt 9 audience is GRID Autosport, the racing mobile game from Feral Interactive. GRID also offers custom controls and a wide of vehicles and circuits based on real-world cars and races. Its downside, however, is its price: the game is not free.
Asphalt 8 Airborne represented huge progress relative to the earlier versions, especially concerning user experience aspects such as graphics. Between the 8th and the 9th release, 5 years have passed, making some people wonder about a possible release date of Asphalt 10.
There is nothing official announced by Gameloft, but the Techolic gives some speculations on the subject of Asphalt 10. Go check out if you are also excited about playing it.
Purchases and New Vehicles on Asphalt 9 Legend
Asphalt 9 Legends (and the whole Asphalt series) is totally free, being supported by in-app purchases. Although the gameplay can be enjoyed fully without making any purchase, the game makes it a bit hard to fulfill seasoned goals and challenges without further paid widgets.
If you are not familiar with the Asphalt system, there are two currencies in the app. The main one is called credit and it can be obtained by completing races and progressing in the career mode. The higher you rank, the more currency you receive. You can also increase your credit by watching ads.
Credits are used to enhance your vehicles, improving their attributes such as Nitro, Top Speed, Handling, and Acceleration. To unlock a vehicle in particular, you must get their blueprints by finishing specific races (and upgrading your garage level).
The other currency is called token, it is represented by a blue pentagon labeled with the letter A. This one is a paid currency you can buy in-app. For instance, a hundred US dollars will worth you 3,000 tokens.
These tokens can be used to purchase advanced items, and also can be converted to credits. The hundred dollars you paid for those tokens will worth you almost a million credits.
Asphalt 9 Legends: the Major Features
Asphalt 9 Legends is not the game for gamers seeking realistic experiences. A lot of its features are based on real-world cars and race tracks, but that ends there.
One of the most merchandisable actions you can do in the game is the ramp jump: go high speed in a ramp, make some acrobatics in the air, and land perfectly on your wheels, without completely obliterating the car suspensions and breaking it apart into several pieces.
Below, we will briefly enumerate the major features of Asphalt 9 Legends. Keep reading to check it out!
Clean and Sharp Graphics on Mobile
Although Asphalt 9 Legends seems more based on a car movie, you can really get some realism from its high graphics.
Custom and Intuitive Controls
You can customize the way you race on Asphalt 9, choosing the best alternative that reflects your preferred gaming style. There are 3 options in that matter:
- TouchDrive: the game will handle acceleration and steering. The only controls you have to mind it the Drift and the Nitro. When offered different path options, a simple swipe left or right is enough to choose between them. If you double-tap the Drift button, your car makes a complete twist. If you double-tap the nitro, you will enter in a full shockwave.
- Tap To Steer: if you prefer to handle manually the direction, choose this drive mode. You will get extra buttons, such as the two visible pedal icons representing the accelerator and the breaker. Tapping the screen will make your car steer in the respective direction. You still get the full shockwave option by double-tapping the nitro, but the full twist comes now by pressing twice the left pedal. This mode, different from the other ones, is customizable, meaning you can reallocate the buttons freely on the screen in the game settings.
- Tilt to Steer: using a feature only available so far on mobile smart devices, this mode gives you more dynamic gameplay since you gave to actually move the device. This makes you feel real like steering a wheel. It is worth trying, but hardly you will get used to it. The other modes are way more enjoyable and simpler to play. The Drift and the Nitro buttons are in the same place they were on the TouchDrive mode. The double tapping will also give you the same outcomes.
Leveling Up and Upgrading your user Account
In Asphalt 9, you have a Garage Level that you can upgrade by finishing races. The purpose of upgrading your level is to unlock more Cars in Packs.
Career Mode or Multiplayer Mode: play with people all over the world
You will first land in the career mode to gather experience and enough resources to improve your profile. After some time playing with bots, you will unlock the multiplayer modes and will be able to race against up to 7 other players.
Collect Real-world Racing Machines and Customize Every Car
The Asphalt series is particularly famous for the wide set of vehicles available in the game. The more you finish races, the more events you engage in, the more challenges you fulfill (and the more you buy tokens), the more your collection will grow.
Customize every vehicle improving its attributes or changing its appearance.
Incredible Race Tracks based on Real Locations
There are 80 tracks available in Asphalt 9 Legends, ranging between the Egyptian necropolis, the Hymalian mountains, big cities across many countries, and the Caribbean paradisiac beaches.
The Club Race is a new feature in the Asphalt series. It works as social networking for its players. You can actually collaborate with other members and gradually unlock rewards to raise your club in the ranks of the leaderboard. This gives a nice touch of competitiveness to the game in the long-run.
In the Events hub, you can check current events. Events allow you to gather extra features like blueprints (to unlock more cars) and other resources. If you play in Ranked races, you can earn more interesting widgets. Each new event comes with new features.
Download the Asphalt 9 Legends Apk Mod
If you are looking to download the game outside the official stores, you have to download an Apk file. Commonly, it comes with Mod versions, meaning third-parties developers have edited the source code to improve some aspects or to unlock advanced features.
The most recent update of Asphalt 9 Legends is version 2.3.5, keep an eye so you do not download older versions. To install a game from an Apk file, both on an Android or iOS device, you must first grant permission to install unknown apps from non-standard sources such as your browser.
After you download the Apk file, open it, and your operational system will notify you that this source is not allowed to install the app. Just type the right option to lead you to the permission window. In Android devices, the option stays at Biometrics and security (look for Install unknown apps).
If you are using an Android device, there is one more step you must take. You will note that the Apk file comes separated from the OBB directory in iOS devices they come together and you do not need to mind these following steps.
So the game can run properly, you must place the OBB directory at the following address:
Internal memory > Android > obb
Just like that, the game will be ready to run!
The OBB directory stores your progress and customization data on the game. You can not place it on SD cards, nor can you remove it from the obb directory after you replaced it there.
