The next trio of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers are here. Subscribers will be able to download Mortal Kombat X, a new game called Hell Let Loose, and PGA Tour 2K21 for free from October 5th. You'll have access to them until November 1st, when the cycle will reset. That means you have a few more days to download September's free games, which include Hitman 2.

PlayStation Plus is required if you want to game online using PS4 or PS5, but the service has grown to offer much more than access to multiplayer gaming. For a monthly fee of $10, or an annual membership of $60 (which saves you 50% off the monthly price), subscribers get discounts and free games each month. Sony typically offers three free games per month for Plus members.

But it's nowhere near the Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft's subscription service for over a hundred games that will be built around the Xbox Series X, which launches later this year. There are some incredible deals to be had, especially if you keep an eye on the monthly selection of free titles. You may download and keep these applications as long as you like after downloading them; they don't have a expiration date.

PlayStation Plus members get access to the PlayStation Plus Collection, a collection of classic PS4 games, for free when they purchase a PS5.

October 2021's free games

The free games offered by PlayStation Plus for the month of October are Mortal Kombat X, Hell Let Loose and PGA Tour 2K21. They can be downloaded at no cost between Oct. 4 and Nov. 1 by subscribing members.

Mortal Kombat X (PS4)

Although Mortal Kombat X was released in 2015, it is still one of the best games in the franchise. The game received high praise from critics for its story, character designs and deep gameplay. In fact, GameSpot said that it had "the best fighting mechanics of any game in the series" up until that point. Note: This game is already available for free download for PS5 owners in the PlayStation Plus Collection.

Retail price of Mortal Kombat X usually $19.99 on the PlayStation Store.

Hell Let Loose (PS5)

If you've never heard of Hell Let Loose before, it's because it's a brand new game -- on PlayStation 5, at least. Originally funded via Kickstarter and then released on PC in 2019, this battle royale game makes its debut on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on Oct. 5. It's a World War 2 shooter that pits you in 50-versus-50 team battles on either the western front, pitting Germans against Americans, or the Eastern front, where Germans take on the Soviets.

PGA Tour 2K21 (PS4)

The PGA Tour 2K21 is the most recent golf video game, so if you're looking for a golf simulator, this is it. The game was developed by 2K and features a "wonderful golf sim that's getting closer to the real thing," according to GameSpot's Steven Petite.

The PlayStation Store frequently sells PGA Tour 2K21 for $59.99.

September 2021's free games

Although the free games for September are still accessible for a few more days, they will revert to their regular prices on October 5.

Hitman 2

In 2016, Hitman was rebooted and improved upon greatly. Many people argue that this is the best the series has ever been. The second game of three new-era Hitman games, simply titled "Hitman 2", puts you in the shoes of Agent 47 as he attempts to navigate his way through sprawling and complex levels to reach his target. This isn't your typical run-and-gun shooter game--it's much more thought out than that with a higher focus on trial and error then anything else. When it released in 2018, GameSpot (our sister site) gave it an 8/10 score; one of their highest marks givenout.

On the PlayStation Store, the most recent version of Hitman 2 costs $60.

Overcooked: All You Can Eat

Overcooked is a game that is ideal for PlayStation Plus because it is one that you can always have on hand. Do you need anything to pick up and play? Overcooked. Are you having guests over? Overcooked 2 has more than 200 levels, as well as downloadable content. It's a huge amount of Overcooked and it's totally free in September.

The All You Can Eat Cooked Rice Deal for $40 on the PlayStation Store is the most expensive offer.

Predator Hunting Grounds

Full disclosure: Predator Hunting Grounds is a terrible game. It's a multiplayer game in which you take the role of one of four military officers attempting to complete various tactical objectives within the jungle, or as the Predator who is out to hunt them all down. The game was panned by critics, but with a price tag of zero in September, diehard fans of the 1987 blockbuster may play around with hunting or being hunted.

On the PlayStation Store, the Predator Hunting Grounds cost $30.
