A music video game, sometimes known as a music game, is a video game in which the player’s actions with a musical score or individual songs are significant and often nearly entirely focused. Music video games may take many forms and are frequently associated with puzzle games owing to their common use of “rhythmically generated puzzles.”

Video game music videos are distinct from solely audio video games (e.g., the Sega Saturn release Real Sound: Kaze no Regret) in that they include visual feedback to help the player follow the soundtrack, although eidetic music games can be classified under both categories.
