As technology advanced, mobile phones became able to run those diagnoses themselves in mobile apps like the Torque Pro app. So, to connect your smartphone to your car’s OBD system, you need an OBD Bluetooth adapter, purchasable in every online store. The quality of those Bluetooth connectors varies a lot, so be mindful of the seller and try to get as much information as possible before hitting “Confirm payment”. In the Settings menu, the first two options will be Connection Type and Choose Bluetooth Device. In the first one, make sure Bluetooth is selected. Note that some OBD2 port adapters may offer a wifi connection to pair with your device, in a very similar way than printers do. The disadvantage of this option is that you will not be able to use your mobile internet.
To pay with the adapter, you must first pair your phone normally, as you would do with any Bluetooth device, such as earphones or smartwatches. Just afterward, you click on Choose Bluetooth Device and select the OBD2 adapter in the list of already paired devices. Wait a few seconds and the Torque Pro app is ready to run the diagnosis on your car!
